The main characters in this story are Blade and Layla. The more I get into the Storm MC books, the more I noticed a great theme. Each character and couple have their own demons. They are all put through difficult things and have to learn how to make it through the hell we call life. This book is about Blade's story, even though he is connected to the family/MC. Blade is not a member of Storm, instead, he has his own thing going on. Blade is the step brother to Scott and Madison, they have the same father, Marcus Storm MC's President [who everyone hates]. Blade and Layla have demons that they need to deal with and they help each other deal with them. Blade and Layla have some hot hot chemistry and lots of hot, hot sex. Blade is rough and tough but, Layla takes all of what Blade is in stride and knows how to calm him down and cares for him. If you want to know more, you will need to get this book. Slay by Nina Levine...where do I begin? I loved this book!! I don't even know the right thing to say to even do this one justice. Nina's writing forces some of the deepest thoughts...on my part. Her books make me reach way into my heart and mind and pull out the feelings and thoughts that I try and keep to myself. She writes such excellent characters, characters that one can relate to and understand.
Blade---his name alone exudes toughness, hardness and dominance. He's incredibly sexy, but incredibly dark. He maintains control in everything he does...well...almost everything. He works hard to keep the demons that live in his soul buried. He refuses to talk about the things that send pain into his heart, thus closing it off from the opportunity for love, until....
Layla---she is light in darkness. Her sassy attitude challenges that of Blade when they finally collide. Layla is determined to take care of herself in all things, she's been doing it for most of her life, but something about Blade makes her want to relinquish and let him lead. She is a no bulls*** kind of woman, she demands honesty and respect.
Their interaction with one another was smooth, sexy and playful, their love scenes were hot and....animalistic. That primal need to connect with another person and the feeling of loss when they couldn't get to each other fast enough.
I especially liked the sarcasm and playful conversation between Jess and Layla. Jess's description of Blade made me laugh, even more in the way she refers to Blade.
Even the darkest of souls and the most hardened of hearts want and need love....that over whelming, unconditional feeling of love so strong it will never falter no matter how bleak things may look.
I don't think there is any greater satisfaction than knowing and feeling completely as though you have found the ONE person who will always understand the darkness that lives, really, in us all.
"Sometimes you have to shatter to find strength. And sometimes you have to let someone in to help you put the pieces back together" This line by Layla pretty much sums up my feelings about this book.
This was an incredible read, Nina slays you with her words...Definitely five stars!!!
I will admit I wasn't sure I would like Slay as I really didn't think I liked Blade in the previous books. I am so glad I got the chance to know and understand him better. Even though I knew about Ashley I was glad to get Blades struggles in Slay. Layla grew up in a totally different world than Blade did but her past was not all rosy either. Layla left her family at 18 and has taken care of herself and her cousin ever since. She is very independent and not looking for a man to make her life better.
Nina does a great job of building on all the characters and giving them depth with each new book in the series. I can't stop reading and have jumped right into the next book. I recommend this book if you want HOT, sexy, bossy men and the women that tame them.
This is the 5th book in the Storm MC series, and I for one hope it never ends!!!!
I have so enjoyed this whole series, and Blade and Layla's story was no different. Blade, so broken from an abusive father that was the President of Storm MC, and also had a wife and another family. Blade (Donovan) always wondered why his mother put up with his father, and why his father couldn't be what he and his mother needed full time, not just sometimes. Donovan learned to become dark, hard, ruthless, and filled with demons that fueled his rage and violence. He was sure he would never love again after his fiancé, Ashley was raped and murdered - that was until Layla came into his life.
Layla was broken in her own way, but differently from Blade. Layla grew up in wealth, but not much family or love. Her cousin Annie was her best friend all through childhood. Annie was being abused by her father, Layla caught him abusing Annie and went after him with a knife. Annie's mother refused to believe Layla's accusations. Layla's family wanted no scandals to touch their social standing, and because of that Layla took Annie with her and left the life they knew behind them rather than live another moment in their lies, and deceit. It was hard for both girls, but Layla always watched out for Annie even when Annie screwed up - which was most of the time.
Layla ran a local backstreet bar that her business partner stole all the money and ran away. Layla was determined to keep the bar running to help Annie have a stable home, especially since Annie's last boyfriend dumped her in typical dirt bag fashion.
Blade and Layla have some hot chemistry, and lots of hot, hot sex, but the tone of their new relationship begins to shift as they come to care for each other, but remain guarded in case it goes wrong. Blade is rough and tough, and Layla takes all Donovan is in her stride and calms and cares for him. They have so many people trying to tear down their new world, and neither of them are going to allow that.
These two were perfectly made for each other, and are so accepted by his family and their friends.
Bravo, Nina Levine for another great read! I am headed for the next installment now! Don't miss this series!!!
