I picked up this book after reading some of Dougie's posts in the Amazon forums. The man is fast and funny--if you are not on the other side of the discussion.The book follows Billy from self proclaimed "lardy loser" and football fanatic to a new status where things turn out quite well. The process is interesting to come along, as he tries to understand women and survive his friends. Sometimes it can be very confusing and painful, but apparently it is worth it. The situations he goes through are hilarious indeed, and had me laughing from beginning to end.
The characters are very well rounded, from the log "block" and his mates, his attractive lady-boss, who turns out to be cool (when she is not PMSing, that is), and the other ladies in his life.
It is a great read for everyone with a sense of humor and some life under the belt.

This is a great book full of the wonderfully English humour that has come to be so popular as a result of Bridget Jones and the Loiuse Rennison teenage books. Of more interest to me was the fact that it is about a male (lad) and his desire to secure some romance for himself. There were lots of occassions where I found myself laughing at situations simply because like most men, I've been there myself!
Read and enjoy.
C'mon ladies, don't be put off because this one is from the male perspective, in fact, that in itself is a great reason for picking this one up!

Written in a first person narrative, and filled with quick British wit, humour, and colloquialisms, Billy's Log takes you through the daily happenings of one very average man, Billy Ellis, who keeps a daily journal that you'll be left feeling honoured to have been offered a peek inside of.
Billy Ellis is the hero in this hilarious page turning saga of men, women, life, and love, whom at the crossroads of entering his thirties takes a hard look at where his life is at, where he's heading, and ultimately what he desires. Whilst reading through the journal that he's kept from the previous year he decides that this is the year that he is going to make things better in his life, and that is where this delightful journey begins.
I laughed out loud throughout, and I'll sheepishly admit here, that I even found myself thinking, "Oh boy, he's in trouble now!"
In this world of Venus and Mars it was refreshing to discover that men experience the same emotions that we do when it comes to life, love, and the opposite sex.
I very highly recommend this one to all!
Nice book with a lot of funny moments regarding general view of woman by the man. Dairy form of the book moves it closer to reality. Please do not consider as serious or psychology literature. just for fun.
much of this I have been through myself will men ever understand women I doubt it .. they have more confidence .. good read though and I understand the dilema of a Date v The Rookery and the latter wins hands down COYH
Women should read Billy's Log if they are curious to know how a man thinks! The subtitle is, The hilarious diary of one man's struggle with life, lager and the female race, and the story about Billy is very descriptive, funny and at times adventurous. I really enjoyed the British writing style of author Dougie Brimson.
Ladies, be prepared to enter Billy's way of thinking and the anticipation of what he is going to do on a daily basis.
This is a memoir of a British office worker named Billy Ellis, who spends his time trying to figure out the women he works with, while lusting after his feminist boss. He is sometimes confused and finds himself in hilarious situations, which turn into disasters and learning experiences for him, but he doesn't give up. He's aging and needs a girlfriend!
I don't think this book is exclusively for men, I had great fun reading it and would recommend it to women who have open minds and enjoy reading about the male psyche. For me, it was a seriously funny book that made me laugh out loud until the very end.
If you enjoy British humor, all the better to purchase this book...I remember a tv show years ago called The Rising Damp that I truly loved and enjoyed for many years here in the states, and I was sad when it went off air.
I recommend this book for it's humor and it's style, both of which were excellent.
